Dandelion

Ellie loves flowers.  She crawls through our pathetic yard (wondrous to her) and touches each dandelion.  We picked a dandelion for Daddy last week when he was really down and out.  On the way upstairs, Ellie chewed on the stem and munched on the petals, practically destroying the thing.  I filled our tiniest vase with water and set the sad looking flower on the mantle where Daddy could see it.  The room was dark, so the flower closed and leaned over.  I forgot about it for a few days.  I am not sure how it brought Jeff joy, but I know it did.

Today, I noticed it and moved the vase into the bathroom where it would get light.  I added a little more water.  By this afternoon, the stem was straight and strong, the closed up petals had fallen onto the counter and a beautiful puff of dandelion seeds adorned the crown.

How amazing is that?  What a wonderful vision to start Holy Week.

(Of course, I took the flower down, dumped the water and carefully placed the seeded dandelion into the garbage... no need to have that puff all over the bathroom.)
